Passwords secure our PCs from intrusion but technology does not protect documents from being misused and although there is large media focus and government attention on securing personal documents (such as bank statements) it is equally important to protect business documents from intrusion.

Paper shredders are used at home and at work and are relatively new to the office equipment family. Like all types of office equipment, paper shredders have different levels of functionality dependant on their required role in the office. On the budget spectrum of paper shredder cost is the small home office use shredder that will shred around 5 sheets at a time, has a small bin and shreds in vertical strips.

The budget paper shredder is fine if used less often but when an office needs to shred important documentation then a stronger approach is needed. With most large offices their paper shredder is able to dispose of 10-20 sheets at a time, quickly and often with a cross cut or confetti cut catching shredded paper in a large bin.
